Pop-Art with tiles standout in Second Avenue subway

The new subway under Second Avenue in New York city debuted this New Year’s Day and it’s a great ode to Pop-Art.

The tile art features designs from four artists who embody the New York culture. They were selected in 2009 from a pool of 300 artists who applied for the project.

Sara Sze in 96th street, Vik Muniz in 72nd street,en la 72, Chuck Close in 86th street and Jean Shin in 63th street were in charge of making art of this daily transit routes. Kara Walker, Zhang Huan and Sienna Shields also contributed some pieces to the stations.
