Any tile, after installation requires a deep cleaning using the right product.  Tiles after installation are full of dust and cement residuals sticked on surface.  These residuals make surface easy to get dirty and hard to clean. Tile surface needs to be cleaned with a specialized acid base cleaner.  There are many brands in the market some of them are clearly labeled as cleaners after tile installation.  These cleaners can be found in Home Depot, Floor & Decor or Lowes.

As a demonstration we will use Deterdek by Fila. This product is biodegradable and soft to use, but in any case use regular gloves and glasses to apply. Deterdek can be used pure as coming in the container, depending on strength of stains and residuals.  You can test in a small area starting diluted 50/50% on water, see results waiting until dry completely the cleaned area against the dirty area.

Follow the following steps to apply product and clean:

1. Mix deterdek with water in a bucket starting with 50/50 of each.
2. Apply product very abundant with a clean mop.
3. Allow product to work on tile surface for 2-3 minutes avoiding product to get dry. ( for that reason it has to be applied very abundant. Turn off AC during this process to avoid AC getting dry floor quickly). Apply by areas, not the whole space to clean.
4. With Mr Clean Magic eraser ( by hand sponge or Mop ) scrub the floor with the mix on surface.
5. With the clean mop start picking up cleaner and rinse the mop with clean water. You will start seeing water on bucket becoming dirty.  Replace water as many times as possible to mop with clean water.  Otherwise dirt will be spread again on tile surface.
6. Once picked up cleaner with clean water, turn On AC to allow floor to get dry fast. Check results. If still some dirt persists, use product in a higher concentration.
7. Sometimes there are some stains that Deterdek won’t take out due origin of stain. (Deterdek just works on cementitious stains). Some other stains or marks are originated in paint, tape gum residuals, rubber marks, etc.  On those kinds of stains, apply punctually paint remover or thiner to dissolve them.
8. After finishing cleaning, for the next days mop floor just with water, to remove possible Deterdek residuals from the cleaning process.
9. For regular maintenance use Clean All by Fila or PS 87 by fila, one cap diluted in a water bucket and mop. These are PH neutral cleaners, many brands in market. Avoid most commercial brands cleaners, most of them leave grease residuals on floors, making noticeable steps marks on floors when someone walk on them.
